Collected batteries are recycled through The Battery Network. The Battery Network, formerly known as Call2Recycle, is a nonprofit founded in 1994 that rebranded on January 13, 2026 to reflect its evolution from a simple battery collection program into a full nationwide system supporting the circular energy economy.

 

Their focus is to increase the supply of battery materials, reduce the reliance on materials from foreign countries, and keep precious metals out of landfills. Beyond running more than 20,000 consumer drop-off sites nationwide, it now serves as a compliance and logistics partner helping over 300 manufactures meet state extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements, manages a growing network of processing partners, and works with businesses and organizations like the Energy Security Agency to safely transport and recover materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel from batteries.
